When the technology of VoIP was created and started to be used, it was in the United States, Canada and the European territories. The Voip market has grown well beyond the areas of those countries. As a matter of fact the Asian VoIP market is becoming the biggest growing VoIP market around the world. The estimate of revenue in the Asian VoIP market is expected to reach $10 billion in 2009, which is nearly double compared to the $5.5 billion that was reported in 2004. Most Asian VoIP users utilize the broadband-based phone system to make international calls, which is said to be a major development in the VoIP market in Asia. Currently, there are approximately 8.7 million existing VoIP lines in use in Asia.

Most of the VoIP user in Asia come from China, A country that is estimated to have more than one billion regular telephone users and over 200 million internet users by the year 2010. China is also expected to have as many as 400 million mobile users by 2010. It’s believed that these statistics will most likely decline because of the popularity of VoIP technology that was apparent in the United States and Europe, will also happen even more so in China and the rest of Asia. Market analyst believe that the billion telephone users in China will drop by as much as 40%, based on projections of VoIP market shares increase in Asia.

More than a quarter of the earnings in 2007 from the VoIP market was spent on internet protocol exchanges to open more VoIP lines for Chinese users. The projected revenues of Chinese VoIP market is expected to hit at $7.8 million in 2010, if the subscription in VoIP usage will increase within the projected percentage increase of 13.5 percent annually. Which at the way it’s been going already, that estimate is quite modest.

The Asian VoIP market, particularly the Chinese market share, is expected to be as huge as the United States and European VoIP market by 2010. However, the projection will depend on how China and other Asian nations will react on the VoIP communication system. If they learn the benefits of VoIP, the statistics will materialize, and China will go on the VoIP way.
